Wills
Through the effective use of a Last Will & Testament, one can provide for his or her loved ones, distribute their estate according to their desires and make important decisions regarding the care of minor and special-needs children.
Adams & Edens offers complete Will drafting services. We listen to the client and offer crucial guidance and counsel so that the client’s intentions are clear. Following the completion of the draft and after the client is satisfied that the document reveals the complete intentions of the client we offer execution services.
Trusts
Not every client is well-served by a simple Will. Sometimes a Trust is the best tool for providing for loved ones while simultaneously preserving the estate. Trusts are not for everybody. Each person’s situation is different. You need competent legal counsel to assist in determining whether a trust is right for you. We guide you through the decision of whether a trust is right for you and your family.
Tax Planning
An important part of the estate planning consultation includes analyzing the estate for any potential tax issues. The truth is that these considerations are extremely complex in nature. The determination of the proper mechanisms for addressing potential tax consequences requires specialized training and experience.
Adams & Edens is pleased to have a lawyer who is a candidate for the Masters of Laws in Taxation designation available for estate planning consultation.
Power of Attorney
Perhaps the most important document in your estate plan, the Power of Attorney allows you to designate the individual who will manage your financial affairs or address issues involving your assets when you are no longer able. A Power of Attorney is a crucial estate planning tool that must be executed at a point in time when the client is competent to do so. Many people assume that they can delay this important planning step. Unfortunately, when the need for the Power of Attorney arises, it is often too late.
Advanced Healthcare Directive
In today’s medical world, every person should have an Advanced Healthcare Directive, otherwise known as the Medical Power of Attorney. This document informs your medical caregivers and loved ones as to the care you elect to receive or not receive in circumstances near the end of life. Additionally, our attorneys will help you determine the proper person to serve as your agent when it comes to making non-end-of-life medical decisions when you are not able to do so.
Delaying the execution of this incredibly important document until you need it is not an option. Once a medical power of attorney is required you are most likely not in a position to execute one.
